Holiday Family Session

Last month I had the honor of photographing 2 sisters who wanted to surprise their mom with some family photos for Christmas.  I’m sure you made your mom quite proud!  You two are wonderful, and I can tell you love each other and your families very much.2 sisters

Here are their families

Hafer Park in Edmond, Oklahoma served as the beautiful backdrop for the family photos.

Of course, dogs are family, too!

Awww.

This next one is my favorite.

Now for an announcement: this is my last family session.  To this wonderful family: I am so glad to have met you!  You are wonderful clients, and I wish all my future clients could be as wonderful as you (I say future because ALL my clients have been wonderful so far :) )!  I enjoyed our session, and you were such troopers–even willing to lay down on the semi-wet ground for me!  You can’t ask for much better than that :)  Please realize that in NO way have you contributed to my decision to leave family photography.  This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while.  I want to focus my photography on love relationships (i.e. weddings and couples).  I’m not sure I can express into words just what draws me to photographing the Love Relationship, but weddings and couples (by the way, I consider maternity to be in this category) are what I love photographing the most.  For this reason, I have decided to drop family, newborn,and children’s sessions.  If you are looking for a family, newborn, or children’s photographer, I would be more than happy to give you recommendations.  Thank you all for understanding!

Ode to Fall {Oklahoma City Wedding Photographer}

bride

Meet Lacey, a gorgeous woman with a contagious bubbly personality.  You can’t help but be happy and feel loved when you’re around Lacey.  You just can’t.  Lacey has the gift of encouragement.  She’s the one you go to when you’re having a bad day.  She has a positivity that rubs off on you.

Confession.  Lacey isn’t actually getting married.  She’s already been a bride to her wonderful husband for 5 years now.  Nor is this her wedding gown.  A friend of mine gave me this wedding dress to do with as I please and to trash if I wish.  To my amazing friend who gave me this dress, thank you!  Lacey is another one of my amazing friends who happened to fit into the dress.  So I grabbed Lacey on a beautiful, yet drizzly, fall afternoon and had her model for me.  Two girls having fun together on a beautiful fall afternoon–what could be better?!  Herein lies our adventures :)

I love this photo because it’s so fun.  It was all Lacey’s idea!

I asked Lacey to sit on the fence.  This was the result.  That wedding dress is HEAVY!

There you have it!  A documentary of 2 girls having fun :) Oh!  And one more, just for fun:

Anthony and Chloe {Afton, Oklahoma Wedding Photographer}

Meet Tony and Chloe, a couple I adore.  One of the first things I noticed about Chloe is that she has a heart for others.  Apart from observation, I know this personally because the day we met she wanted to know about ME and not just the business side of things.  I love to become friends with my brides, and that’s just what Chloe became!  And to top it all off, she was so hospitable and attentive even on her wedding day.  She came up to me personally and asked if I had been able to eat yet.  Let me tell you—that’s not normal.  In fact, it’s RARE for a bride to do that.  Chloe, I was blown away by that one simple act!  I can totally see how Tony fell in love with you!  And Tony!  He has a quiet tenderness about him.  He’s so calm and fits perfectly with Chloe’s easy-going personality.  Plus, Tony and Chloe had Dr Pepper at their reception, so you gotta know I love this couple! ;)  Tony and Chloe, thank you so much for choosing me to be a part of your wedding day!

Tony and Chloe had beautiful wildflower and pumpkin centerpieces.  The girls may or may not have picked the wildflowers from a nearby field the day before…

The dress Chloe wore for the ceremony was made by her great great grandmother  in 1938.  Chloe’s great grandmother, grandmother, and mother all wore the dress before her!  Plus, there have been no alterations to the dress!  The lace on Chloe’s veil is also the original lace her great grandmother wore.

Tony and Chloe were married by Chloe’s brother at the beautiful Cherokee Spur Ranch near Afton, Oklahoma.

I love the almost-kiss!  It’s just so romantic!  Sigh…

While I was taking formal portraits my second shooter, Sarah Mansur of Sarah Mansur Photography, captured this.  I love it!  Thank you Sarah!  In case you couldn’t tell, Tony’s a twin :)

Chloe, you’re so much fun!

Must have been something I said.

Chloe, do you have any idea how beautiful you are?

I love the emotion of wedding days.  Chloe’s mom got a little teary eyed when looking at Chloe’s baby pictures.

Remember Erin from her maternity photos?  Well here she is with Elliot!  Elliot happened to be one of the 2 very cute ring bearers.

For the reception, Chloe changed into her grandmother’s (on her father’s side) wedding dress.

I want this dog.

The father-daughter dance was the best father-daughter dance ever!  They danced to “Play that Funky Music,” and it was awesome!

You’re killin’ me, Chloe.

Tony and Chloe, thank you so much for taking the time to leave your guests and the “schedule” of the wedding day in order to take more photos.  My favorite part of the wedding day is capturing pictures of just the bride and groom together.  So often there’s not a lot of time for this.  But if you give me a little bit of time, you’ll have some very special photos to add to your wedding day collection.

Yummy light.  Love this!

By the way, I did not tell Chloe to jump up on Tony like this.  Chloe’s just naturally awesome like that.

Tony and Chloe, thank you again for allowing me to be a part of your special day.  Congratulations!  You may view some more photos on facebook.

Please help Tony and Chloe earn a free gift by leaving some love in the comment box below.

Brittany and Aaron {Colorado Wedding Photographer}

Unreal–but in a good way.  Unreal.  That’s how it feels.  You see, I’ve known Brittany since 10th grade (since I was 15).  She was my best friend.  What can I say except that I was truly blessed to have her as a best friend?  We spent many a night sharing secrets, playing card games, wrestling, and singing at the top of our lungs.  (By the way, Brittany can sing.  In fact, she sang in my wedding!)  Let me tell you, it does something to you to reminisce on all those times while you watch a best friend get married.  Now I know how she must have felt when I got married!  Brittany, I cannot tell you just how happy and excited I am for you!  As for Aaron, I don’t know him as well, but what I do know, I respect.  I know that he treats and treasures Brittany like the jewel she is, and that right there is all I can ask.  Be forewarned–this is a long post.

Aaron saw Brittany walking down the aisle and lit up, as grooms are prone to do, but I love that Aaron was so overwhelmed that he had to look away in order to take it all in and to recompose himself :)

I love the emotion in this one, especially since you can see Brittany’s 2 sisters wiping away tears.

Why, hello there Aaron!

I just love how she’s kissing his hand!

I could watch these two lindy-hop all day!  You two make me quite jealous happy!

They did a dollar dance, and poor Aaron’s first and second (and third?) dollar came from, well, non-conventional partners.

Congratulations!  I’m so happy for the two of you!  Enjoy married life!

New editing style-what do you think?

I was playing around in my B&W editing and came up with something I haven’t done before, and I think I like it.  I say “think” because it’s just a little bit different from how I would normally edit my B&W images.  I would love to hear your opinion!  Take a look:

Before B&W

I realize this effect is only good on certain types of pictures, but I really think it works here.  This is from a wedding I did last weekend in Colorado.  More pictures to follow!  What do you think?  Would you like to see me edit this way more often?  Leave a comment below and tell me what you think :)

Rebekah and Clay {Edmond, Oklahoma Maternity Photographer}

Rebekah is one of those caring people with gentle spirits.  She’s the one who makes you feel welcome when you feel a little awkward because it’s your first time to join a group of people.  She’s the one who will volunteer to help you out when no one else will .  She’s the one who gives you a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear when you need it the most.  And she’ll be able to care for one more person come November.  Clayton, her 2nd son, will be born in about 2 months!  Rebekah and I headed over to Hafer Park for a very quick maternity session.

maternity session in Edmond, Oklahoma

I discovered something during this session that Rebekah pointed out to me.  I tend to “tra la!” while I’m taking photos.  Rebekah described it as “singing,” but I wouldn’t quite go that far.  I asked Rebekah if I should continue this with future clients, and she said “yes.”  So if you want to know what I’m talking about, book a session with me :)   Maybe Rebekah said “yes” so that all of you could laugh at me, too, which is what she did, and I’m sure she’s laughing at me in this next photo…

Baby Jude {Oklahoma City Newborn Photographer}

Shock.  But a good kind.  That’s how Chris and Sarah felt when they were surprised with the news that they’d get to welcome a baby boy into their family in July.  Shock grew to anticipation, and anticipation grew to love.  Chris and Sarah welcomed Jude Michael into their arms on July 17th, just 2 weeks before these photos were taken.  Now, I have to brag on Sarah.  Sarah labored for 20 hours and gave birth to a 10lb 5.5 oz baby with NO drugs!  Sarah, you’re my baby-birthing hero, and I believe I speak for many when I say that!  Here it is 2 weeks later, and you’re looking just as beautiful as ever!

Chris, I think it’s safe to say that the tenderness you show toward Jude just makes Sarah’s heart flutter :)
